Significance

  • 90% or greater were reported for behavioural interventions being effective with the available intervention technology for children with ASD

  • Every child is different and every child may need more assistance in certain areas of development rather than others.

  • Many teachers are trained in the field to teach, guide and support children with ASD.

  • Different support systems are provided for children, although more are given for children rather than adults.

  • Families spend an average of $60,000 dollars a year to benefit and cope with children diagnosed ASD.

  • Educational and behavioural interventions through therapists, and counsellors are a way to treat ASD.

Medications aren't able to cure ASD but can be used to decrease hyperactivity and regulate behaviour. (Buitelaar, J., Willernsen-Swinkles, S. H. N., 89)

“Schools typically offer speech and language therapy, but districts simply cannot afford to pay the high cost of ABA therapy for each child with an autism diagnosis and, even if they could, they might not be able to hire the necessary personnel.” (Sharpe, D., Baker, D. 2007)

  • The child may feel “different” at school, like they aren't the same as their classmates.

  • Children with ASD may feel alienated and feel like others don't want to be around them.

  • Bullies are dominant with children with ASD because they are aware they can take advantage of

    them.

  • It is important for educators to provide modifications and adaptations for these children to give the same opportunity to participate in activities.

  • adaptations and modifications are important for these children to provide the child with different approaches throughout the task.
